A. I've never actually seen shredded am cheese in the grocery store- however, i made a dish that called for it once ( I just took slices and ran them through the food processor). It worked! I'm not sure what you need them for (if it will work) but it might :D

A. Processed cheese is designed to last a long time. It will usually dry up and curl at the edges before going bad.

macaroni and cheese with American Cheese Slices?
Q. I wanna make Macaroni and cheese but I dont have Shredded cheese. All I Have are Kraft American Cheese Slices. Is there anyway I could use that to make macaroni and cheese. If so, how should I melt the cheese and should I Add anythin to it?
Asked by WALLEY - Tue Jan 20 17:05:25 2009 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Yes you can. I saute some chopped onions in about a tablespoon of butter until soft. Then I add about 1 tablespoons of flour and mix for a few minutes to cook out the flour flavor. Next add about 1 1/2 cups of milk and bring to a boil to thicken. Take off the heat and add the American cheese while stirring to melt. Pour mixture over cooked macaroni and top with some bread crumbs and put in the oven.

A. It is a sharp cheese...that is when it is homogenized, it is further into the souring process than those others. Yes sharp cheese is "moldy" when you buy it.

A. "Hawaiian Toast": Slice of toast buttered on on side, slice of ham, on top of that a slice of whole pineapple round it up with a slice of am. cheese.( if wanted fill hole in pineapple with mushrooms before putting cheese on top ). Bake in oven for about 20 min. until cheese starts to melt. Bon appetite!

Q. It's yellow american cheese that comes in a rectangular shape i'm not sure if it is presliced or not, but it is very tasty on the sandwiches there. I'd love to buy some for home. If you know what the brand name is, and better yet, where I can buy some, would really appreciate it. Thanks,

Where can you get grated american cheese?
Q. I need it for a mac and cheese recipe. Do I have to grate it myself? Is there something specific I need to look for, if so what is the best brand? It's white sauce that I want to make.
Asked by Some Girl - Sun Aug 9 17:33:55 2009 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments

A. If it's a white sauce, are you looking for grated white American cheese? Grated white cheddar would be delicious, but it would add sharpness. You could try grated mild cheddar, which would be orange (Kraft sells grated mild cheddar). Or grate what you need from a block of Velveeta, which melts very well and has mild flavor. That would be orange, too, which would definitely change the color of your white sauce.

A. The easiest it to melt velveeta cheese and mix the cooked macaroni with it. Top with extra cheese and bake in the oven to make the top a little crunchy. This is the easiest recipe however this recipe is very good. 1/2 pound elbow macaroni 3 tablespoons butter 3 tablespoons flour 1 tablespoon powdered mustard 3 cups milk 1/2 cup yellow onion, finely diced 1 bay leaf 1/2 teaspoon paprika 1 large egg 12 ounces sharp cheddar, shredded 1 teaspoon kosher salt Fresh black pepper Topping: 3 tablespoons butter 1 cup panko bread crumbs Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. In a large pot of boiling, salted water cook the pasta to al dente. While the pasta is cooking, in a separate pot, melt the butter. Whisk in the flour and mustard… [cont.]

Is it a bad idea to give my 10 month old son Kraft American Cheese?
Q. I know he is allowed to have cheese, but is this type of cheese okay for him? He loves it, but I don't want to give it to him if it is not good for him.
Asked by Moonlight177 - Mon Nov 10 12:18:53 2008 - - 15 Answers - 0 Comments

A. It probably won't hurt him, but you should give him something not processed as much, that doesn't have as much sodium, chemicals, and artificial color. Try natural cheeses, instead of "processed cheese food", which is what Kraft American, Velveeta, and etc are. It's not going to hurt him to give him a piece of Kraft every now and then, but try to stick to stuff not as processed.

Can you use american cheese in chicken cordon bleu? I don't care for swiss and american has lots of flavor.
Q. Also - any good recipe?
Asked by Nurse2b - Sun Mar 2 02:12:35 2008 - - 5 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Use what you like, but if you don't like swiss, maybe try Gruyere. That way the dish is authentic, but the Gruyere is a bit milder than traditional Swiss cheese. Provolone is also quite mild and you might like that. American cheese is actually a "cheese product". Not real cheese.

A. Cheddar makes for a great substitute. American cheese is a yellow cheese that is short on flavor but melts great for grilled cheese sandwiches.

How do they call American Cheese in Europe?
Q. Completely useless, I know. My husband is just not gonna stop annoying me till I figure this out. Does anybody know how Europeans call the American Cheese? Thank you! Please, my question is serious. I know how silly it sounds, but we really just want to know. Do Europeans have the yellow American cheese, and if they do, do they call it American Cheese?? No rude answers please!

A. Okay, I'm Canadian but we don't call anything American Cheese and I'm not entirely sure what it is - from what I've seen on American commercials, you either mean what we call: a) "Plastic Cheese" or "Cheese Slices" or "Kraft Slices" - those ones that come in the plastic! (The last commercial I saw for it called it "American Cheese") b) "White Cheddar" - at American Subway restaurants they call this "American Cheese", while we call it white cheddar!, so maybe this is what you mean!

What brand of white american cheese is used at Subway?
Q. Please answer if you know exactly what the brand is. I have guessed and have tried many brands but have not yet found "it". Also, if you know where it can be purchased in the los angeles area, I would be forever grateful. Again, it's the white american cheese that is used at Subway. If you k now for certain, please say so! I am a desperate woman! Thank you. :-)

A. Subway has basically three types of cheese, but the white american one you are looking for is american cheese (processed) Cultured milk and skim milk, water, cream, sodium citrate, salt, sodium phosphate, sorbic acid (preservative), citric acid, acetic acid, enzymes, lecithin. Now you know what's in there, do you really want to eat it again???

How do you use Swiss Cheese and American Cheese?
Q. Which is healthier ? also what are SHARP and Cheddar cheese mean ?
Asked by dokomo - Tue Jan 26 22:17:22 2010 - - 5 Answers - 0 Comments

A. ew, american cheese is not really cheese, it is made with chemicals and flavoring, tons of salt, and maybe some dry milk too. Swiss sheese is heaven, you can put that on anything, I suggest any kind of sandwich or by itself. Sharp chedder is just a stronger flavored chedder. It is reccomended to replace normal chedder usually because the taste is so much stronger and cheddier.

What is up with American made cheese? Why is it so bland and rubbery?
Q. I cannot find a good American cheese in the supermarket. This is not an anti-American question but an expression of frustration. Are American cheeses processed differently than cheeses from other countries? Too much pasteurization? Not enough ageing? Bad shipping procedures? Why are they so bland and greasy? I'd like some real cheese with my whine.
Asked by Limey - Wed Jul 26 19:02:29 2006 - - 7 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Buy only imported cheeses and never buy pasturized processed food product (most american cheese) which is really vegetable oil and food coloring. If you eat fast food and they ask "do you want cheese with that" Laugh as they serve whipped vegetable oil with food coloring. Kind of like "Butter Flavor Crisco" What you say??? Bean Gum in all natural ice cream - just what do you call that. American dairy is dangerous. Margarine is number 1 (1) on the list of most dangerous foods known to man if it is hydrogenated. And they let them call this stuff cheese because women's brains can be addicted to it and it shuts them up. So girls eat American Cheese and shut the mouff Biotch.

A. No. American cheese is a common processed cheese. It is orange, yellow, or white in color and mild in flavor, with a medium-firm consistency, and melts easily. It has traditionally been made from a blend of cheeses, most often Colby and Cheddar. Today's American cheese is generally no longer made from a blend of all-natural cheeses, but instead is a processed cheese (i.e. it is manufactured from a set of ingredients such as milk, whey, milkfat, milk protein concentrate, whey protein concentrate, salt) which meets the legal definition of cheese. Cheddar cheese is a fairly hard, pale yellow to orange, sharp-tasting cheese originating from the English village of Cheddar, in Somerset. Cheddar cheese is the most popular cheese in the United… [cont.]

A. I use sharp cheddar for Nachos, sharp has a better, stronger flavor then mild or medium. I want to taste the cheese. You can substitute Cheddar or Jack cheese for American cheese...it's your recipe, you can use what you like.

A. Glad I wasn't on the receive end of that toasted cheese sandwich. Hoooly Camoleees! I'm stayin' out of your way! Anyway, my birds poop on the carpet sometimes. After it dries, I get the hunks up first with a glove or paper towel. Then I vacuum to get the loose stuff. Next I do one of three things: 1 - 409 Carpet Cleaner as directed. Amazing. 2 - I use my Bissel steam cleaner. 3 - Baking soda and a scrub brush. Takes the smell out too. There is a fourth method and that is OxyClean, as directed. It is as good as 409 if not better. I just have it in the basement for the laundry and don't bring it upstairs very often. It will even get wine out. Haven't been whining lately have we? Oh well, forget that question...
