Q. All of my fleece (blankets, clothing) comes out of the wash and dryer rough and scratchy, like it has some kind of coating on it. I use a mild detergent, cold water. Throw it in the dryer with a fabric softer sheet. All the baby blankets and clothes are ruined- can they be fixed by washing them again in a certain way??? Those dryer sheets don't do anyhting except make the clothes smell a little better and not have static. Also, if you wash your clothes in hard water, buy some water softener and add it to the wash. It works wonders on cleaning your clothes/blankets and making them softer. Also, use liquid detergent if you are using powder. Washing clothes in cold water with powered soap is a big no no because half the time it doesn't dissolve all the way and leaves some kind of "coating" (as you put it) on your clothes.
