Which type of vinegar is best to use for cleaning windows?
Q. I have heard that vinegar is really good to use on a lot of things around the home but can it be any type of vinegar for cleaning windows or is a certain type better? eg. White?

A. Plain white vinegar, you can get a gallon jug at Sam's (or try Costco). Vinegar & baking soda is a good deodorizer for sinks, toilets and any drains. Also, I picked up the new Clorox Green Works All Purpose Cleaner - and I love it. It smells fresh and cleans the windows and mirrors like crazy.

A. use spray & wash and warm water. Then use diluted laundry detergent and get it all nice and foamy. Use a warm wash cloth the get all the soap out. Next time, use a thick mattress pad. If you stain that, just throw it in the wash...or in the trash. good luck.

I spilled vinegar in my car and it smells terrible. How do I get that vinegar smell out of my car?
Q. A preservative bottle broke and spilled vinegar in my car. I've used Lysol and Ozium to kill the smell but those did not work. I want to neutralize and kill the smell without replaceing the vinegar smell with a worse smell. Is there anything that will kill the smell of vinegar?

A. Typically, the vinegar odor will go away as soon as all the moisture evaporates. Actually vinegar is used as a deodorant for many things and tends to leave a clean scent when it drys. If I were you, I'd try to dilute it as best I could with water and then soak up the excess with lots of towels. Put a fan on it for a couple of days and see what happens.

How much vinegar to clean mold off plastic shower curtain?
Q. I have a vinyl shower curtain with red mold on the bottom. I've read a few tips, including putting it in the washing machine with some vinegar and detergent. How much vinegar should I use?
Asked by - Fri Jul 23 11:35:33 2010 - Cleaning & Laundry - 5 Answers - Comments

A. Yes you can put it in the washer your normal detergent on HOT with 1/2 cup bleach or 1/2 cup vinegar. Let it soak a good hour or more. Then...Put it in the dryer with some old towels for about 5 minutes. This is so it won't be a cumbersome dripping mess. It will also soften the vinyl a bit so it won;t be wrinkly. Hang it back up to dry. Pink mold is a respiratory mold called Serratia Marcescens. It feeds off soap scum and other bath proiducts like conditioner. In the future ..Have a spray bottle of straight white vinegar in the bathroom and spray the curtian and tub daily with it after showers. The vinegar eats soap scum and mineral deposits. It only smells untill it dries. This mold is airborne. It is found in the elderly and young… [cont.]

A. Your cookies won't taste good if you substitute. Apple cider vinegar is only a few bucks at the grocery store. Either put off making the cookies or take a run to the store. It would be like substituting apples for oranges. Not the same in the least.

Does vinegar really help pain of ulcerations of esophagus and stomach?
Q. I have seen advertisements for booklets advertising vinegar cures. One of the supposed remedies for ulcerations of the stomach and esophagus is to drink a little vinegar. Has anyone tried this? A. Hi *Granny*, I would steer away from vinegar altogether. I have the same problem. I have totally eliminated all tomato (boo, hoo) products, many dairy products (lactic acid), and anything that has citric acid as an additive. It was really hard to do. But, I don't like taking Prevacid, or any of those meds, for the same reason. I recently read about the olive oil remedy and I'm going to try that. It's a real drag having to deal with acid reflux, isn't it? I miss the foods I now avoid, but, I want to stay healthy. Good luck & God bless.

A. yes you can use it. Generally, rice wine vinegar is a little less acidic than the red wine vinegar, but it really shouldn't affect the outcome. Also, rice wine is usually seasoned with a bit of sugar & salt. so you can add a touch of each if you think it necessary, but it will be fine.

For cleaning, is vinegar still antibacterial once diluted?
Q. Almost all of the cleaning recipes I see out there say to dilute vinegar with water. But if you dilute it, I would think it becomes less acidic- so would the antibacterial/cleansing properties of vinegar be reduced? Also, out of laziness I used plain undiluted vinegar on our wooden coffee table and I noticed it worked fabulously and left quite a nice shine! I know they normally say straight vinegar is too acidic for wood, but is this REALLY true? I would love to be able to continue using my straight vinegar for cleaning but just want to make sure... Thanks much!
Asked by DrkLashes - Fri Sep 21 10:42:13 2007 - Cleaning & Laundry - 3 Answers - Comments

A. The antibacterial claims are for straight vinegar. I think it will still clean many things but may not kill bacteria when it is diluted and becomes less acidic. I think it would remove wax from furniture eventually but depending upon the kind of finish you have, if it looks good, go for it! Vinegar is great. I like to use it to kill grass that grows between the bricks in my walkway.

Can I use white vinegar to replace apple vinegar in a pulled pork recipe?
Q. I have apple juice already in the recipe, but it also calls for apple vinegar. Thanks!
Asked by snowflake - Thu Jun 3 14:39:15 2010 - Cooking & Recipes - 9 Answers - Comments

A. Mark and Emma are on the right track. Apple vinegar is actually a little more acidic and has a slightly different flavor, but primarily is suesd to tenderize the meat and add that tangy flavor we all know and love. If I had the apple cider vinegar handy, I would use it, but using regular white vinegar will not hurt the dish and measurments should be equal

A. I use vinegar to clean my carpets all the time. The smell will go away on its on if you let the carpet air out. We just open a window to the room I'm cleaning and let it air out for about 3 hours. I would give that a try. If not, then put baking soda on the carpet and let it sit for about 20 minutes, then vaccuum it up.

A. Just use the white vinegar. It will be very similar in taste. (Assuming you meant white wine vinegar). If you mean distilled vinegar, you can use it but I am not a big fan of the taste. Personally, I would run to the market rather than use the distilled stuff. Cider vinegar is made from fermented apple juice with vinegar mother added

What kind of vinegar can I use for Home made BBQ Sauce?
Q. i found a nice sounding recipe for BBQ sauce but it calls for cider vinegar, but I don't have any. I am making it tonight, and I am sick so I can't go to the store, but do have White distilled vinegar, Balsamic vinegar, white wine vinegar, and red wine vinegar. can I substitute any of these in the place of cider vinegar? oh yeah, and does anyone know also, how many cups are in a quart?
Asked by - Fri Jan 29 06:48:50 2010 - Cooking & Recipes - 8 Answers - Comments

A. White distilled vinegar is often made from cider vinegar - check the label to see if it says what it was distilled from. Of the vinegars you have, I'd use the white distilled vinegar. There are 2 cups in a pint and 2 pints in a quart, so 2x2 = 4 cups in a quart.

When do red wine vinegar and white wine vinegar expire?

Asked by Katira - Thu May 24 18:38:48 2007 - Cooking & Recipes - 5 Answers - Comments

A. I don't think it does expire... Wine vinegar is wine that has gone "bad" since it's turned into vinegar. Also, the acidity in the vinegar inhibits any bacterial growth. The only concern is flavors evaporating away, but if the container is capped, evaporation is kept to a minimum or non-existent. From the vinegar website: How Long Does Vinegar Last? The Vinegar Institute conducted studies to find out and confirmed that vinegar s shelf life is almost indefinite. Because of its acid nature, vinegar is self-preserving and does not need refrigeration. White distilled vinegar will remain virtually unchanged over an extended period of time. And, while some changes can be observed in other types of vinegars, such as color changes or the… [cont.]

A. You can be more fussy about type of vinegar when you are making a vinegarette, pickling, or other situation when the vinegar is going to be a dominant flavor. For corned beef and cabbage, it doesn't matter much, though the stuff you have is probably the best. Bon appetit!!

Does anyone know what's the reason my right armpit starts to smell? And again, it's only sometimes, most of the time the vinegar works great on both arms. Maybe I should use a different methos in applying it? I'll probably try a spray bottle next time, any other suggestions?

A. Things You ll Need: * Filtered or unfiltered apple cider vinegar * Anti-bacterial soap * Plastic container (optional) * Soft, absorbent cloth Step1 Test your diet for foods that may cause body odor.
